In 1831, Sir Charles Darwin embarked on an expedition that took him up Nant Ffrancon to Ogwen, around Cwm Idwal then on via Capel Curig to Ffestiniog and across the Rhinogydd to the coast, finishing at Barmouth.

Follow in the footsteps of Sir Charles Darwin’s scientific expedition on this spectacular tour across Snowdonia from North to South.

Visit geologically significant sites and marvel at the breath-taking views that would of inspired the scientific work that led to some of Darwin’s most recognised theories.

Learn about how the Geology and Earth’s processes has influenced the landscape, industry and culture of the Snowdonia we enjoy today.

This 135 km cycling expedition, will take you through some of Snowdonia’s most iconic landscapes whilst journeying across a variety of different terrain types from tarmac to gravel to open moorland.

This expedition is ideal for the gravel bike and is open to any cyclist who is looking to attempt a bikepacking expedition with the additional safety and comfort provided by a guide, checkpoints and a support vehicle at campsites.

The route is undulating with long climbs and descents, you must be comfortable with riding for 6-8 hours per day covering up to 50KMs.

We ride as a no drop group, with plenty of breaks to take in the stunning surroundings.

We will send out a medical form and questionnaire prior to the event and it’s really important we know about any injuries or niggles.

What’s included:
The expedition will include 3 full days of cycling and two nights camping at prebooked sites.

Our Expeditions are fully guided with checkpoints and a support vehicle at campsites.

We aim to offer our expeditions to any cyclist who is looking to attempt a bikepacking expedition with the additional safety and comfort provided by a robust risk assessed route and experienced guides.

What’s not included:
Accommodation or pick up the night/after the course, we can recommend local accommodation with discounts available.

You will need a bike with a minimum tyre width of 38mm for the adventure.

Meals and snacks

It’s important that every rider is fuelled correctly for the expedition and we offer bespoke provisions packs that will be delivered each evening to camp and will include the evening meal, breakfast, and gels/snacks for the following day.

If you wish to travel light we can arrange for your camping and evening bag with warm clothing, comfortable footwear to be delivered to the camp each evening – this will be transported to the camp by the support team vehicle.
